Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and Monaco : a beautiful tale
The history of our Resort is closely linked to the history of the Principality. When the company was founded in 1863, Prince Charles III entrusted François Blanc with developing gambling and hospitality in Monaco. A few years later, Société des Bains de Mer designed a brand-new district: “Monte-Carlo”, in tribute to Prince Charles III. It was the start of a beautiful story, which continued with the construction of iconic buildings: the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the Café Divan (now Café de Paris Monte-Carlo) and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo designed by Charles Garnier and inaugurated by Sarah Bernhardt. Société des Bains de Mer quickly became associated with the best events in the Principality. Aristocrats, artists and businessmen like to meet at prestigious galas and in the privacy of luxury establishments.
In the 1910s, Société des Bains de Mer opened up to new horizons: creation of a car rally, acquisition of the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, inauguration of the Monte-Carlo Beach followed by the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, opening of major restaurants and luxury boutiques. Each event, each establishment is further proof of our Group’s commitment to the Principality.

One of the most remarkable events in the Principality in the 20th century was the wedding of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III and Miss Grace Patricia Kelly on 18 April 1956. Monaco was overcome with joy... And 20 years later, the royal couple celebrated their wedding anniversary in the privacy of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo Wine Cellars.
